Michael Meyer: Thank you for having me! When I became President, Skal Club Düsseldorf was at a crossroads. Although we had a solid foundation, it was clear that we needed to inject some fresh energy and direction to make the club more vibrant and appealing. I saw this as an opportunity to revitalize the club, and I set out to create an environment that would not only retain our current members but also attract new ones.

Skal Europe: What was your vision for the club, and how did you start implementing changes to bring that vision to life?

Michael Meyer: My vision was to make Skal Düsseldorf a dynamic and inclusive space where tourism professionals could connect, exchange ideas, and feel part of a supportive community. I started by organizing a variety of events that catered to different interests within the industry, from informal networking dinners to more structured professional development sessions. The key was to create a sense of excitement and belonging, showing that Skal is a place where members can grow both personally and professionally.

Skal Europe: One of your notable achievements is the significant membership growth. What strategies did you use to attract new members to the club?

Michael Meyer: I realized early on that we needed to actively reach out to potential members rather than waiting for them to come to us. Despite not being a “younger Skål member,” I approached my role with the same energy and excitement as if I were starting fresh. It was important for me to lead by example, showing that Skal isn’t just about attending meetings but about actively participating, contributing, and creating a sense of community. I think that spirit resonated with our members and helped generate a renewed sense of purpose within the club.

Michael Meyer: Being involved at an international level has been incredibly enriching. It allowed me to see how other clubs operate, learn from their experiences, and bring those insights back to Düsseldorf. It also showed our members that Skal is more than just a local club—it’s a global network with countless opportunities for professional development and connections. This broader perspective made it easier to communicate the value of Skal to potential members and demonstrate why being part of our club can be such a rewarding experience.
