The United Nations observes the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons annually on July 30th. This day highlights the global issue of human trafficking, which exploits millions for forced labour, sexual exploitation, and other abuses. It emphasizes the need for international cooperation to combat trafficking, support victims, and dismantle trafficking networks.
Skal Europe’s Commitment to Combating Human Trafficking in Alignment with EU ESG Regulations and UN Agenda 2030
Defining Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a severe crime and a grave violation of human rights, involving the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of persons through coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, or abuse of power for exploitation. Exploitation includes sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery, servitude, and the removal of organs.
Compliance with EU ESG Regulations and UN Agenda 2030
Skal Europe is committed to adhering to European Union ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) regulations and supporting the UN Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, which targets ending forced labour, modern slavery, and human trafficking.
- Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, focusing on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions.
Awareness and Advocacy
Aligned with ESG principles and the UN Agenda 2030, Skal Europe actively raises awareness about human trafficking. This includes ensuring fair labour standards, supporting local communities, and collaborating with organizations dedicated to preventing human trafficking. These practices are integral to Skal Europe’s proposals, reinforcing the importance of sustainable and responsible tourism.
Supporting Victims and Survivors
Skal Europe’s commitment extends to supporting trafficking victims and survivors, in line with ESG and SDG principles. This involves partnerships with NGOs and governmental bodies to provide resources, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs, addressing the social and governance aspects of the ESG framework and the UN goals.

Appreciation for Anti-Human Trafficking Sub-Committee
We thank the Skål Agpts World Committee, co-chaired by Fiona Angelico and Tito Livio Mongelli and coordinated by Director Kemi Soetan.
