Dr Markus Gratzer, General Secretary of OEHV – Austrian Hoteliers Association is the Austrian author of this study on digitalization processes within Austrian and German hotels.
For the third time, the ÖHV, the German Hotel Association (IHA) and Roland Berger have presented a cross-border benchmark study on the digitization status in the hotel industry. In the current new edition, 587 hoteliers in Austria and Germany were asked about their assessments of the industry with regard to the state of digitization and its current and future effects.
Country comparison: Austria is one step ahead
Basically, it can be said that the Austrian hoteliers estimate the effects of digitization and the importance of this topic to be significantly greater than their German neighbours. This is supported by the fact that the industry in Austria rates the quality of the services offered higher. They pay more attention to the topic and are therefore increasingly implementing it. With regard to the distribution of the respondents, clear differences can be seen in a direct country comparison between Germany and Austria. On the one hand, in Germany, about the same number of hoteliers from the urban area participated in the study as from the rural area (52% to 48%), whereas in Austria the focus of hoteliers was assigned to the rural environment (36% to 64%).
